Therapy
Kirsty offers therapy for all voice and upper airway disorders for clients of all ages. Clients should have seen an ENT or respiratory consultant for diagnosis of their condition before seeking therapy, and it is helpful if you share their findings in your initial assessment.
Kirsty has a special interest in singing and is happy to support you to implement techniques to optimise your singing voice, getting you back to your singing activities as quickly as possible. She also has an interest in breathing pattern disorders and respiratory conditions and has completed additional training in this area.

Voice Change
You may be experiencing voice change, and you have hopefully seen an ENT consultant for diagnoses. They may have explained to you why this has happened; however, sometimes you are told that nothing is wrong, but you still feel that there are issues with your voice, for example, hoarseness, roughness, strain, or fatigue. I would be delighted to talk to your further about their findings and how therapy can support you and improve your voice naturally to help it work as optimally as possible.
Surgical Support
You may have been diagnosed with something on your vocal folds, for example, nodules, cysts, polyps, or papillomas. Or perhaps your vocal folds are not working optimally and you have a vocal fold palsy or paresis. You may have been offered surgery to support this and be looking for some voice therapy to optimise your surgical outcomes, or you may prefer to try therapy first incase this can be avoided—either way do get in touch.
Specialist Singing Support
Singers may notice that their range has changed or that their singing voice is not lasting at long as normal. You may have even seen another Speech Therapist and worked on your speaking voice, but not your singing voice, and you may like to have some specific advice on your singing voice before transitioning back to your singing teacher. As a singer myself I know the impact this can have on your life and wellbeing. Please do get in touch and I would be delighted to talk further about how I can help.
Chronic Cough/Throat Clearing
Chronic cough is a cough that lasts longer than eight weeks, is dry, and generally does not respond to medications. You may recognise this as being linked to certain triggers, or a behaviour or habit. You may experience significant negative effects from your cough that stops you doing everything that you want. Throat clearing presents in a very similar way. These are upper airway disorders and therapy can help to support these symptoms to make you feel much more comfortable.
Persistent Throat Symptoms
You may be experiencing sensations in your throat that feel uncomfortable. These could come and go or they could be there all the time. They might include pain, soreness, discomfort, dryness, tightness, excess mucous, feelings of frog in the throat (or lump), irritation, itchiness, or scratchy sensations. These are really unpleasant and we can discuss ways to improve these through advice to improve the health of your throat and/or therapy exercises.
Inducible Laryngeal Obstruction (ILO) or
Vocal Fold Dysfunction (VCD)
You may feel that sometimes your throat closes and you cannot breathe. You may have been diagnosed with ILO or VCD. This can feel very scary. This pattern of vocal fold movement can also link with our breathing pattern because the way we breathe has an impact on how our larynx works. Optimising your breathing can make a big difference to how you feel. We can work this out together, just get in touch.
